Line of Fire Awareness

Line of fire means being in the path where energy could be released. Examples include suspended loads, moving equipment, pressurized lines, tensioned materials, rotating parts, and falling objects. Before starting work, ask: If this moves, breaks, drops, releases, or starts unexpectedly, where would the energy go? Keep your body out of that path.

Discussion questions

  1. Where could this hazard show up in our area today?
  2. What control do we need to verify before work starts?
  3. What should be reported immediately?
